Restoration

In addition to providing programs, the MSC obtains funds to restore and preserve the historic barns, buildings and grounds of Miwok Stables so that they will be a lasting, attractive, and safe place for the horses to live in and for the public to enjoy.

Initial projects are the restoration of the original ranch buildings. These barns and houses were part of the dairy built by Portugese families who settled here from the Azores in 1878. Projects include a walk-through museum of displays and exhibits and classrooms for community and outreach programs.

Immediate priorities are to repair the fifty-years worth of deferred maintenance, and the ravages of time and coastal weather.
