Ranch Bunk House
The little red bunk house has housed ranch workers for over eight decades. Early California bungalow style, it has a welcoming appearance at the back of the property, backing up to wild pear trees and willows on the creek. Structurally, it's in a sorry state.
The Miwok Stables Center is working to raise the funds to restore the house's foundation, re-align the back porch to something closer to plumb, fix the roof, replace crooked doors and windows, and re-paint the house in an NPS approved historic color.
In September, 2006, MSC volunteers gave the bunk house a thorough cleaning and emergency repairs to make it habitable for the new ranch workers. Furniture and appliances were generously donated by boarders, students and friends at the stables, and many weeks were spent scrubbing, painting and hammering.
We have a long way to go to fully restore the Bunk House. With contributions from people like you, we can preserve the house as an example of early California ranch buildings, and we can make it a dry, clean and safe home for our workers.
